Sad wedding story.
Feb. 24th, 2005 09:48 amRing thief caught after his fiance takes them back to the store to get them resized.
A man walked into Glassner at Barracks Road Shopping Center around 12:30 p.m. Friday, and an employee showed him the three diamond-studded gold rings. He then asked to see another set and when the employee bent down to get it, he fled with the rings, police said.
Sometime between Friday and Monday, Carter proposed to his girlfriend, who was unaware the rings were stolen, Mooney said. The detective declined to identify her.
The woman took the two wedding bands to the store Monday.
"She said, 'My fiance and I are getting married and I'd like to get them resized,'" Mooney said. "He had told her where he got [the rings] from, not thinking she would take them there to get them resized. It didn't occur to him."
An employee recognized the rings, took down the woman’s name and address and said the jewelry would be ready next week, the detective said. The employee then contacted police.
Carter returned the engagement ring when he turned himself in Wednesday, the detective said.
Mooney said the woman was reduced to tears after learning the rings were stolen.
