Looks like a stock 67 (1300) frame from here, so it's a 1287cc air cooled horizontally opposed rear mounted four cylinder. It might be a 68, the headlights are wrong for anythig pre-67 though, and the low back seats weren't around after 68. The bumper is also pre-68, which is why I figure it's most likely a 67 chassis. Totally impractical to drive on a real road, but it's neat none the less.

It's not that impressive; I drove a bug for almost 10 years, most of my friends drove bugs, and we all worked on our own cars and had different models and years. You have to know this stuff when going through spare/junk cars for parts, or you end up with things that don't fit on your car.
