I've had two more or less conflicting ideas for a Rapture-style story knocking around in my head for the last couple of years. Haven't found the right angle on either one.
One, however, posits a situation more or less like the one in the strip (except that civilization collapses, or at least becomes less convenient, due to so many people just up and vanishing).
The other (which is either more hopeful or more cynical, depending on your point of view) is that so few people fit through the proverbial narrow gate that when the Rapture hits, no one notices.
I really think "Rapture hits, everyone who believes in rapture goes away, world average IQ jumps up 40 points" is a great ending.
Almost as great as "Rapture hits, all the people who follow Christ's teachings go away, everyone who believes in the rapture is left behind screaming and trying to figure out who they have to kill to get Jesus to come back for them"
