On day two, when the burns started being described, I was wondering, but still credulous and assumed the "not making sense" bit was a shocked nonmedical girl worried about her cat.

I was wrong.
The cat-burning story was BS.

If you donated and haven't gotten your refund yet (She has given some of the money back for sure, and says she's giving the rest back - there were a LOT of donations) then you may wish to contact her.

I'm going to go find something to punch for an hour or so.

Okay, this pisses me off. (I don't blame you though, for posting the link in good faith.)

Right now though I'm just wondering - I think I'm okay, since I go to my Paypal account, and looking at account history for the past week, it shows nothing there. I'm *assuming* this means that the payment I made was refunded and just cancelled out, although I'd think they'd put both transactions on there. But does anybody know enough about Paypal to give advice?

Actually, after posting this I thought about it, and called the customer service # on my credit card. There was no charge that went through, so either a)trying to use Paypal to send it glitched out and didn't work for some reason, b) it's still being processed (but then it'd be in the records as pending), or c) it's been refunded and I don't have to worry.

*shrug* People get weird when you sneak up and hit them in the compassion.

Stupid bitch. Fortunately she refunded my money two days ago, before the shit hit the fan.

You should get e-mail confirmation on all transactions.

According to my refund note, the stupid whore's name is Merissa Riddle. Search your transactions for that name. Alternatively, go here: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_history , select "Payments" in the drop down menu, and set your date range from the day before you made the donation to today to see if it went through. Then go back and select "Refunds" with the same date range to see if she refunded you.

She refunded mine the day after I sent it. Doesn't piss me off any less, though.

I felt genuinely bad for her! I know what it's like to get slugged with unexpected vet bills. My dog recently developed epilepsy - we didn't know what the hell was wrong with him - and ran up some pretty hefty bills with the emergency visits, the initial hospitalization to get him stabilized and the immediate followup visits. Knowing how shocked I was by Murphy's unexpected bills, I could only imagine how scared this girl was.

Then I read that it was a hoax, both here and at Ferrett's. I feel like I've been kicked in the gut. Scamming people is shitty enough. Using a critter to do it? Shitty with a cherry on top.

Exactly... and exactly. Also, to top it all off she hung her friends out to dry, and then gave a lame-ass excuse for the whole charade. She was just doing an experiment? Bitch, please. I only have one word for her: Sociopath.

Also, if you do have any trouble with this, [livejournal.com profile] foxfur (the one who originally called bullshit) is emailing [livejournal.com profile] city_glitter's contact information to people who have not been refunded, or who want to file a complaint.

Hrm, like I said, no contact information. And I'm not finding a confirmation email in my inbox, or folder for kept technical information, or even trash, so it must not have gone through in the first place for some reason. ^^a

Er... not "no contact information" (sorry, my brain's a bit fuzzy atm). I meant nothing showing up in my paypal history over the past week.

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking (and, honestly, she didn't necessarily strike me as someone who'd be *able* to cover the bills, and I hate the idea of an animal that could be saved being put down for lack of money).

My refund hasn't come through yet, but... *shrug*

On the topic of irony...

In attempting to prove the worthiness of faith in humanity, not only did she do something that has done the opposite for many, she also sparked off a chain of replies in the hundreds. Most of these replies are overflowing with vengeance, anger, hate and pettiness and likely far exceed the number of people who actually sent her money to help her cat. So I ask two questions... what was proved by whom? and, Am I the only one who finds this situation laughable?
