Aug. 8th, 2005 12:57 pmGeorgia congressman trying to save the Voting Rights Act - you know, the one that makes sure that rules like "only rich people can vote" or "only those prepared in advance and given the answer to this postgraduate-level skill-testing question can vote" are illegal.
Also,
In Virginia, the man whose case convinced the USSC to outlaw executing the retarded is to be executed because, while he is severely retarded, he's not significantly enough below the Virginia average to qualify.
Also,
After all the complaints about the Guantanamo Bay concentration camp, the US government has reached an agreement to release many of the victims - the Saudis into Saudi hands, the Yemeni into Yemeni hands, and all the rest into Taliban hands, in Kabul. Yes, they're outsourcing imprisonment without evidence or trial, *again*, into the hands of people known for torture, rape, and murder - and who's getting released? Right, the people whose national leaders *give money to Bush*. The article mentions that they're going to help the Afghanis build a "appropriate prison" and train the guards - doesn't THAT make you feel good? I mean, hey, the Americans responsible for Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib are sharing their expertise on the subject with the scum of the world!
On the topic of something completely different,
