Short story: Homeless woman (HIV positive, heroin addict, cocaine addict, prostitute, weighing in at a massive 40 kilograms, parents refused to come to her funeral), suspected of shoplifting, followed out of the supermarket by employees of same, and literally kicked to death. The shoplifting charge turned out to be unfounded.
This wasn't just negligence. What did the perps get? 3, 1.5, and 1 years in jail.
Just to clarify: this is a different incident than referenced in Weaselking's post. This one took place in the Netherlands 2 years or so back. Wrong country for huge civil lawsuits, and she effectively didn't have any family, anyway. Her parents hadn't seen her since '79 when they disowned her for drug abuse.
Oh god. And the poor man had a 2-month-old baby as well. And they did this to him...talk about people needing to be kicked to death. I wish someone with adequate sense and enough guts to keep shouting at people had been there.
(on the other subject, I saw photos of a different hummingbird being caught and eaten by a mantid about four years ago; it has happened more than once in the history of the world. But somehow that pales a bit in comparison.)
