Interestingly enough, if your belief that it has magical powers actually makes wearing it give you an advantage, then, by definition, your belief is what gives it those "magic powers". Of course it's your own mind tricking itself. So what?
In other words, the placebo effect. It's very real, which is why medicines generally need to be tested against it in double-blind before considered to be effective.
