So did I. The only thing I'd seen for that claim was those "You are Here" posters, though, and the perspective in them is different. That might be why.

Also I suspect under/overexposure like effects might cause the outer bits to disappear or appear, since they tend to go on for a long time, just getting thinner and thinner all the time.
