R.S.I. is back, and funny.

If you don't get it, click the link. There's an explanation at the bottom.

I rather suspected something like this might have happened when I noticed there were 29 hits by noon today, rather than ~3. Thank you kindly. (I am struggling so hard to resist smileying you right now.)

However, it looks like I really really really need to do something about the pure-HTML nature of the damn site, 'cause it's a pain to not have a way to let people link directly to a particular strip. Right now the best you can say is "Go to the archive and click on August 19th" or "Go to the link above and click 'Previous' twice" or... hrm.

I suppose I could to what I did I the gallery, and toss in "To link directly to" pages, but there are 78 strips plus filler there, and I really don't feel like giving each of them another two lines of HTML and an extra 470B file. (Is that the correct notation, or should it be 0.47 KB?)

But yeah. Thank you.

You could always eliminate the frames, since FRAMES ARE OF THE DEVIL, or at least have the Address bar reflect the current clickypage.

Yeah, but I *like* having the menu on the side of each page, and the only ways to do that without some kind of ?scripting? are to have each page stand on its own and to have each page contain a table with the menu on the left and the page on the right; to give each page a direct link a la Gallery; or to go with frames.

I realize these are all clunky.

Hrm. I wonder how hard scripting gunk is to learn.

Easy; I managed it and I'm a tech illiterate at heart; didn't touch a PC till 5 years ago at 25.

Your best bet is a php driven thing, which is easier to learn than it looks, but I agree with the weasel that frames are evil.

If you MUST use them, make sure that each page has it's own frameset that you link to, and each loads the same menu tot he left and a different content page tot he right,t hen people can link/bookmark the page they're on, which is essential if people are going to look at archives, etc.

Stuff wot I've learnt since I decided to use this interwebby thing is quite a lot.
