I'm not looking. You can't make me. Nope. Not going to do it.

Looks like the Tegenaria we have in the PNW. You wouldn't want one to bite you, but they're actually quite shy. My cat likes to crunch on them.

Because they are (if memory serves) somewhat poisonous, I encourage the daddy-longlegs we also get around here to stay as long as they like, since they kill and eat other spiders.

I find myself torn between the desire to resure the Irish (should they need it) or to make wild claims about the flesh-dissolving abilities of these spider before buying my pathologically arachnophobic ex-wife a ticket to Ireland. Decisions, decisions.

My housemate here will not be impressed if they are common in (or start making their way down to) Dublin. Haven't seen any myself, but I'm the type that will scoop them up and put them back outside rather than freak out anyway.

[livejournal.com profile] torrain is pathological about keeping the spiders alive. Me, I'm aware that my mild arachnophobia is perfectly illogical, but I don't want them in my house, and it's much easier to crush them than to relocate them. Besides, crushing them means they don't come back.

In high-spider environments, though, my stress levels go through the roof and I start getting twitchy. My parents never really understood this, and never understood my abject hatred of their choice of ways to spend vacation - travelling the Rideau Canal in a houseboat. I don't even like bus shelters in the fall near the canal.
