There are two kinds of Bush supporters left. There are the ignorant and the "but anything else might be worse" types - and the second group keeps getting smaller as the possibility of anything being "worse" gets smaller.
The serious problem with your undemocratic election system is that you can't get a third-party, ever. You've got Bush supporters who hate him and everythign he does, but who voted for him because *their preferred candidate cannot win* and they thought Kerry would do more damage - and if they vote for their preferred candidate in enough numbers, Kerry would win.
That's why I think we should have instant run-off voting. It would encourage people to vote for third-party candidates as their primary, then put in the "better than the rest of the choices" in as their secondary, et cetera. I'm not sure what it would take to get that, however.
(Sorry, reply to old post.) That sounds like the Irish system, sort of, and even though they've been doing it forever, it still takes a week to count everything up. The thought of Florida voters trying to figure this out...the mind scarcely has the courage to boggle.
It takes us damn near a week to count everything up even without it. I don't see why the stupidity of some should damn the rest of us to what might as well be a one-party system.
