They did used to think ignorant things about female hygene ... douching regularly is a good way to get an infection. I don't know about you, but I find the scent of a vagina cleaned with unscented non-anti-bacterial soap to be quite arousing. Maybe I'm just psychotic. Maybe they were gay in the 50s.
Funny, but there's no way that's real. And yes, I do realize they used to think ignorant things.
But they also used to have even stricter parameters on what they printed or didn't print and I don't think "vaginal canal" was showing up in ads in 1955.
