Let me restate that. They were a violent, war-centered culture, but at least women could own property, decide whom they married, seek legal recompense if they were raped, and even become warriors if they really wanted to ... unlike the cultures from which the Abrahamic religions developed, which were, without exception, incomparably more sexist than the Norse (or Celts, for that matter).
Want to know why the celtic men would leave their villages and go fight other clans in the middle of fuckin' nowhere? Nobody wanted to deal with the women defending their children. At least that's the theory I'm sticking with.
As I have always said, there is no problem in the world that can't be solved with the appropriate application of blunt(or in this case sharp) force head trauma.
