On the last comic, funny, but not splitting infinitives isn't really a rule of English. It's a rule of Latin that some people thought we should import to English because, for some reason, forcing your language to conform to the grammatical rules for a different language makes you "cool". You simply cannot split an infinitive in Latin, but in Germanic languages (which English is grammatically), you can, and we do.
