Actually, that's been the case since WWII at least. Poor kids who don't have many (or any) options in life join the military. And certainly the G.I. Bill gives them a far better shot at an education and a career than they would get if they stay where they're born and live on unemployment or handouts or whatever.

Ever since the middle ages, if a wealthy family had more than one son, the first one inherited the title and properties and the younger ones went into the priesthood or the military service. It's a time-honored thing to do.

No, the removal of food stamps, rising cost of living, etc., that has nothing to do with Army recruiting. It has much more to do with this ridiculous war that our idiot administration has decided to wage in the Middle East. The President cannot back down from this fiasco, and yet he still insists on giving the rich their tax cuts, so he robs Pedro to pay off Paul. The poor are crushed in the middle.

But there are *more* poor kids with no options, and fewer people joining who have any other choice.
