Clam-dredging operation finds artillery shell. Call the bomb squad, who dismantle it, open it up... and are hospitalised for chemical weapons exposure. In New Jersey.

"The [US] Army now admits that it secretly dumped 64 million pounds of nerve and mustard agents into the sea, along with 400,000 chemical-filled bombs, land mines and rockets and more than 500 tons of radioactive waste - either tossed overboard or packed into the holds of scuttled vessels."

Also,

Pat Robertson explains that God really wants you to vote a specific way.

"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover. If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city. And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His help because he might not be there."

Pat Robertson appears to have missed the requirements to maintain tax-free-status for churches.

Oh, those weapons aren't a security risk. No terrorists could think of, say, getting a dredge or scuba gear and helping themselves.

As for Pat Robertson, I have this strange little feeling that this is like when he called for Chavez's execution - said during that time of the day when he's not a Christian (http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/002322.html).

Actually, I don't think most terrorists would want to mess with corroding shells full of old lewisite. There would be a large risk that they would injure or kill themselves horribly, but the weapons have degraded over time to such an extent that their effectiveness as weapons is significantly diminished. They'd be better off making their own.

I would worry more about the threats to marine life, and the possibility of arsenic from old lewisite shells accumulating in fish which people are eating.

I'd pretty much assumed the environmental and health hazards.

And, if someone's willing to kill themselves to maybe kill a few more people, they'd probably be willing to risk death to retrieve decrepit and unstable military materials.

Besides, think of what an effective terrorist attack a few well-placed homemade depth charges would be?

A few might try, but I expect most would look for something more practical. Terrorists are human, and with the exception of a few fanatics, most do not actually want to get themselves killed. If they do, they probably want to make sure it's on account of something that's going to work. Something that has been rusting on the ocean floor since 1946 cannot reasonably be expected to meet that requirement.

As a terror weapon, the depth charges would probably not be too effective, unless sufficient media hype were engineered to support it. If terrorists were to drop some depth charges on wrecks full of old CW agents, while it would likely cause enormous environmental damage, it would only serve its purpose if the public were convinced that they should be really freaked out about it. This could be done, but it could be very difficult.

DUDE! Are we allowed to vote God out of our cities, now?

Wonder how one goes about getting an issue added to the ballot...

God: the Ultimate Write-in Candidate.

Wow, that's a smart place to be dumping lewisite, mustard gas, and VX. I don't expect this will make them look good.

He made his comment /after/ the election - but, perhaps it could be interpreted as extending to other elections?

Wow, he really IS the Godfather!!

Read Pat's words but imagine them being said in a Don Corleone-type accent.

"Don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember...."

That's extortion. A protection racket.

The God that I believe in is not a racketeer, thank you very much.

But isn't Pat Robertson the one who said that God was holding him hostage for something like $13 million, back in the 1980s? God would "call him home" if some specific (and large) amount wasn't raised by a certain date. I think the whole world was really hoping to see what happened when it didn't work. Unfortunately, some sap coughed up the money, so we never got to see him make good on his threat.

That wasn't Rebertson. I'm thinking it was Oral Roberts, but the memory is hazy.

Fundamentally Oral Bill tried that same trick, so I think you're right, it was Roberts.
