Nov. 20th, 2005 11:23 amMortgage company offered rent-free housing to displaced Hurricane Katrina victims in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas - FEMA refused on the victims' behalf, on the grounds that this would violate their privacy and the free housing placed an "undue burden" on the evacuees.
Those evacuees are still in hotels, and FEMA will stop paying for any of it on December 1.
