Squirrels have bitten to death a stray dog which was barking at them in a Russian park, local media report. Passers-by were reportedly too late to stop the attack by the black squirrels in a village in the far east, which reportedly lasted about a minute.

They are said to have scampered off at the sight of humans, some carrying pieces of flesh.

A pine cone shortage may have led the squirrels to seek other food sources, although scientists are sceptical.
=====================================

This is the BBC, not The Onion. The details, however, reveal that BBC is just reposting an article from Pravda.

This makes the article bullshit. It's still funny to see coming from the BBC.

Dude, it could happen. I saw a round-tailed ground squirrel run out of his hole and over to a flock of sparrows that were feeding at my birdfeeder. He grabbed one and dragged it back to and down into his hole.

we aint got nature all figured out yet.

Let's just say I wouldn't believe Pravda without corroboration if they told me water was really wet and there's a lot of it in the ocean.

Absolutely, but the Weekly World News and The Onion and The Washington Times claims to be "News" and I don't believe them when they claim it, either.

However, back when I was in college, a squirrel did attack a woman in the next town over. It didn't gnaw her to death or anything, but it did bite her several times, and went apeshit every time it saw her.

Finally her husband killed it and sent it to a lab to have it tested for rabies.

Test came back negative.

(Because of this and other incidents, we decided on rec.arts.sf.starwars.misc that squirrels were of the dark side. I still have a froup t-shirt that has squirrels with lightsabers on it.)
