Why does beer from a can taste different from beer on tap? It's the formaldehyde, of course.

Eeek. I guess I like the taste of formaledehyde then, since I prefer soft drinks from a can to bottled ones.

They do specify that it's beer, and they mention that most cans don't use formaldehyde any more - just the American beer, where the formaldehyde flavour is now a "feature".

Must've missed that part, I read it to be 'all cans'. Then again, I'm running on about six hours of sleep over the last 48 hours, so don't expect me to be completely coherent.

If there isn't the formaldehyde then, what is it that makes soft drinks in a can taste different (and better, as far as I'm concerned) than soft drinks from a bottle? It should be noted that I find fountain drinks to taste the same as canned ones, and I also prefer those to bottled.

uhm, because people got used to the taste of formaldehyde. so now they use stuff that tastes the same instead. in other words, they're flavoring your beer to taste like formaldehyde.

also, aluminium leaches into sodas less than plastic, so the taste isn't as corrupted as plastic bottles... prsumably soda fountains use metal, not plastic, so it would taste the same.

Glass bottle'd coke tastes a lot better than either plastic bottle'd or canned, because it leaches not at all.

I only drink beer out of bottles or on tap. They may claim that other drinks and beers use flavorless biocides, but I think they're on fucking crack. It doesn't matter if it's Bud or Coke, it tastes far better from glass than any other man portable storage container.
