I once had a high school co-op student who, based on his socioeconomic background (single-parent welfare mom with severely disabled brother), definitely knew how to stretch that dollar. His tactic was to buy two burgers and no fries. Wendy's burgers are about $1.29 now (used to be like $.99) and they come with real vegetables on them. I think McD's is about $1.09, with a less filling bun and patty and fake veggies (onion and pickle). If you consult the websites of both companies, you'll find that the Wendy's burger is actually weighs twice as much as the McDonalds burger. While not a definitive measure, but definitely suggests that Wendy's, while marginally more expensive, is a lot more food (twice as much actually).
