The way I've had it explained to me is that running the computer essentially "forks" reality into a gazillion threads, each one running one of the entire possible set of tests, including "not running a test". Then the set of "threads" collapses into the one with the correct solution.

I guess when the set collapses, it can merge "Didn't run the test yet" with "Found the solution" :D
