sorry, I shoulda told you where it was from. I thought you found it on her site, but after seeing it hotlinked all over the net, i realize that you got it somewhere else and didn't know. her lj is mcmillan btw (I misspelt it above).
Not really. More comparable would be "pointing out that I'd tossed my butt at the garbage, and it bounced off and onto the ground when I wasn't looking"
Failing to attribute is impolite. I try to avoid doing it. In cases where I don't do it, it's most often because I don't know the source or I've screwed up my HTML and the link is both hidden and broken.
In this case? I didn't know the source, because I didn't read the extremely small print closely enough, so I appreciate a mention of where to go.
Dude, this isn't about someone not giving credit for where they found the material. It's not about a failure to "Ganked from" or "Swiped from" or "snagged from"
What I was talking about is copyrighted material that was being hotlinked off the author's site with no aknowledgment as regards the source. Yes, there is actually a reference to the source ON the strip itself, but it's muddy and tiny and all but illegible.
I realize that this is a personal blog, but it's widely read and since theweaselking links to the other cool shit he finds I thought it was only fair that this get spotted. It's by these little boosts that webcomics build up a readership.
Actually, it is not and was never being linked from the original site. It's being pulled from a Photobucket account that has no relation to the author - that's why I couldn't just follow that back to the source in the first place.
If it were being hotlinked from the author's site, it would have been much easier to put a backtracking link.
1. I love the cartoon. I hope he gets a LOT of phone calls. 2. So much for rehabbing Torquemada's image. 3. Elections would be much cheaper if we just flipped a coin. It would also relieve us of stupid campaigns. 4. Sad as this is, I think the Texas thing the is least offensive issue here.
