Also,

Also,
Georgia passes law requiring that the Bible be taught in public schools. The acid test on whether they REALLY want it taught as a "historical document" or are just lying through their teeth again is to suggest that they do the same with the Koran. After all, there are more Muslims than Christians in the world, and Islam affects most of the last millenium's history deeply.

Yeah, like I said, I'm all for this if they do the same for other religions (and explain how one can be moral, ethical, and an all-around good person while also being an atheist, which apparently a large percentage of this country has trouble believing).

OK--which Bible should be taught in the class? King James, Revised Standard, "Good News", Douay Rheims (Catholic), Jehovah Witness, whatever version the Eastern Orthodox use, or??? They're all different. Some of them (Catholic, maybe Orthodox) have more "books" in them than others, and the translations are different, somtimes to the point of drastic changs in meaning. Then there's the issue of the Book of Mor*on...heh.

It's one thing to do a critical review of the Bible (the way colleges treat the subject--I took a Comparative Western Religions course years ago), and another to treat it as a sacred work (the way the churches, esp. the fundies, would expect it to be treated). I foresee religious turf battles...

I vote the Jefferson Bible, myself, along with an explanation of where it came from and why Thomas Jefferson wrote it that way.

(Jefferson's Bible began at Jesus' birth, eliminated all the miracles, all the non-Jesus writings, and all the interpretation, and ended at Jesus' death. Yes, Jefferson wrote out the resurrection. He did this because he thought Jesus' teachings about being excellent to each other were entirely worthwhile and should be passed along to all mankind ass philosophy, but that Christianity in general was completely full of shit.

I like Thomas Jefferson.)

Er, all mankind AS philosophy.

That changes the meaning, somewhat.

lol I liked ass philosophy...the gay mans bible *giggle*...anyway I second your vote Jefferson at least tried to make bible teachings make more sense by getting rid of the miracles and all that crap Jesus is just a regular guy tring to teach everyone to be nice to each other vs some kind of superhero that gets you drunk

Jefferson as early proponent of the
"Dear Christians;
Jesus was a liberal Jew."

school of thought?

Works for me, I suppose...

That said, what is that imprint on her cheek? It looks kind of like what you'd get if you fell asleep on a sour key candy, but wider at the top... Bottle opener, maybe?

It's a design in make-up. Why? I don't know, but it matches the eye shadow.

eh, yeah, not quite. But over half the 'christians' are Roman Catholics.

And they don't count. So by that reasoning, there's maybe double the number of Muslims as christians. hehehehe. and indeed, Islam is increasing faster, and Christianity is either stable or decreasing.
