Finally, a version of Star Wars that I'm willing to pay money for.

Good thing, too. My copies of the originals are, frankly, falling apart.

I just hope I'm not going to be expected to shell out $40 apiece, or something equally asinine.

This release will only be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st.

Wait, what? I'm half asleep so I could be misinterpreting the situation, but are they really only going to be available for three and a half months? That doesn't seem right.

#1: Lucas doesn't LIKE the originals. He doesn't want them to be for sale, at all.
#2: There are already 30+ editions of Star Wars out there. Rarity = collectible = can charge a higher price AND artificially induce demand in collectors.

Yeah, but I think they're underestimating the amount of people who will want this. It's going to irritate the piss out of me to have to fight for copies and then pay megabucks for them. But I will, and I guess that's the point, eh?

The price might not be all that nuts. It also depends on how they work it. If it's anything like what Disney does, you'll still be able to buy after December 31st as long as there is supply in the channel. I'd consider it highly unlikely that 2CFox will pull manufactured goods out of stores and destroy it rather than raking in more $$$.

Still, it's nice to know that both version will be on the DVDs. I didn't bother to buy the remasters in '04, and will be able to get both now in one package.

"We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD."

Which means Lucas destroyed - or put into deep storage - so many copies of the original versions it was difficult to find them. Wow. He really is an ass.

I read that as "we searched high and low for some shit to put on these DVDs... but in the end we didn't find anything and went with the backup plan of the originals".

Lucas is a bastard. That said, I will still go out and buy this set. I need to replace my VHS copies before they are stretched like molasses.

I should have known better than to buy the Super Duper Special Edition a couple years ago...

I might - MIGHT - actually buy these. And I haven't bothered to spend money on Lucas since the THX editions.

I'll believe it when I see it. And what's with the limited release trash? If only they weren't all going to be sold out by the time anyone I know has seen them and verified they really are the originals.
