Fox News: "Fair and balanced" means "BEWARE THE BROWN MENACE", coming from their anchors and hosts, not guests.

"By far, the greatest number [of children under five] are Hispanic. You know what that means? Twenty-five years and the majority of the population is Hispanic."
"To put it bluntly, we need more babies."

Because, on Fox, brown skin makes you a bad person. Maybe even a terrist.

Not part of American civilization? They're not even part of America, sister. Them lazy dark-skinned peasants have been invading our fair neighbours down south long enough! It's time they all got sent packing back to where they belonged, so they can stop stealing jobs from honest, hardworking folk.

A story that circulated here in Seattle right after 9/11:

A car passed by local author Sherman Alexie, and a white guy yelled out the window, "Go back where you came from!"

Alexie is Spokane Indian, so he shouted back, "You first!"

Brilliant. Of course, I'm descended from the local indegenous folks. I get to shout that sort of thing at the Liverpudlians who've moved here. Meh, that story is scary daft.

You know things are bad when one of the least religious areas of the country had a squad car stationed outside the nearby Islamic center for two weeks. Gah.

OTOH, I loved how the Church Council of Greater Seattle put together volunteer groups to keep watch on area mosques and make sure no one tried to blow them up. Every so often an interfaith initiative gets it right.
