My new sound card (yes, I actually bought a sound card for a computer. Weird, huh?) fixes the problems I was having with onboard sound, perfectly. It also sounds damn good and means I don't have to use onboard sound processing. Yay!
Too bad it ADDS a pile of new problems - it lags the entire computer, badly, when it tries to handle too many sounds at once, for one. Apparently this is a known iussue with this card and Windows XP and the type of sound files that, say, Oblivion uses.
Curses.
denovan, I'll be back in your store on Tuesday to return this and buy the one that *isn't* totally obsolete. Sadly, the cheapass solution is not good enough for this problem. It was worth a try, though, for the price.
