Fantastic, now I know what to get Mr. Darcy once I've bought him a rice cooker.

Don't know where we'll put it, mind you.

How about fashion police jokes?

Also, seen this yet?
Harper calls for fixed election dates every four years

For some reason, it really irks me because I prefer the current situation rather than the type of thing you see in the US, but since I haven't been home for the last two, I've no idea what the general sentiment towards elections currently is. It won't stop a minority government being defeated and a surprise election, anyway, so what's the point?

What's the feeling there?

My immediate thought is "fuck no, being LESS like Americans with elections is better than more".

Put that through my rationality filter, and, well, no, I still like the variable election times. It prevents American-style two-year buildups to the next campaign. It won't stop a minority from getting defeated. It may get a majority out in less than 5, but the simple fact of naming an election date will prompt campaigning towards that date. The short election campaigns are a blessing, not a curse - they mean that Canadian politicians spend more time working on their jobs and save the desperation moves to *keep* their jobs to a short time every half decade.

Oh, c'mon. You know you want the same situations we've had three times in our history, where the guy who gets the least number of votes gets to be pres!

Yeah, I wish Norway had a system like yours. As it is, we've got a permanent election campaign, with continuous opinion polls. Only one opinion poll every four years actually counts.

Yeah, that more-or-less sums up my feelings as well, glad I'm not the only one.

Dude, vaccuum marinators have been around since the early 90's. Also, they are noisy as all-get-out.
