I always wonder why when APOD does pics like this. I mean, they're generally still cool, but what do they have to do with astronomy?

The first line of their caption is "What kind of a cloud is that?"

APOD covers just about everything in the sky, at one point or another, and that includes clouds and lightning. With this? I've seen similar pictures posted by morons claiming that that kind of thing is a "natural cloud" showing that "God is protecting the American planes" - so NASA pointing out that this isn't true, at all, and those clouds aren't natural, is always good for me.
