You don't want to confuse Liverpudlian for a Londoner, at least, not if you have any sense. It's a faux pas on the scale of calling a Scotsman "English".
As a lifelong resident of North America (with the small exception of a few weeks in Germany), I will confess that for some reason I had Liverpool in my mental map as a part of London - like Manhattan, New York City, or Vatican City, Rome.

Also, they claim to speak English, but it's not a version I recognise as such, even USians manage it slightly better.
