When you are told, repeatedly, by competent people, that they have contacted the manufacturer and determined that a defective unit is out of warranty even with the recall, because it's been just too long?

Do not trust them.

They lie.

Call the manufacturer yourself.

1 year regular warranty + 1 year extended warranty due to defect recall + Sept 2 2004 purchase date = 1 day left to get the "damn, my unit is defective, PLZ FIX NOW OK" work order started, almost six months after it initially started going bad and the previous persons responsible for it "called Sony" and learned that "it's out of warrantee, we missed the recall, they won't replace it."

In your LCD, you horrible little piece of overpriced custom hardware.

You know, I read this, and I thought, "I wonder if he has a VAIO?" And I was right! I have one of those for work and I am just waiting for it to die. The new Corporate Overlords want to replace them all with their preferred hardware, anyway, so I am not really worried about it.
