Interesting concept but with all the problems happening in the Middle East do you really think anyone is going to want to stay there? Why don't you just spraypaint the words "blow me up" on the side of it too. Tourism is not what the middleast is about.

... do you have the slightest idea where Islamabad and Dubai *are*?

Islamabad...that sounds like it's in one of them there middle eastern places.

(Yes, I know it's in Pakistan. But it's not as if Pakistan is a bastion of peace right now)...

Dubai though... um. Dubai is in the UAE dude. That *is* the Middle East.

I'm quite aware that it's in the middle east.

Would it be better for me to have pointed out when the last bombing in Dubai was?

Or how many rocket attacks they get per day?

Or how often it is that Islamabad gets a car bombing?

His argument is like saying "You can't go to rural Nebraska! They SHOOT PEOPLE who walk down the wrong street in Mexico City!" or "Man, that Ukraine is a horribly violent place! There are TANKS rolling through the streets of Baghdad!"

Put more succinctly: The Middle East is a big place, man, and far from homogeneous.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm all for glib one-liners, you know I am, but... uh.. it seemed an odd response at first.

Tourism is not what the middleast is about

Right...

Which is why there are no tourists at all in Egypt, Turkey doesn't rely on tourist income for its economic developement, Dubai isn't one of the most popular destinations for rich people to go on holiday...

Oh, wait a minute, I think we're completely wrong here.

Ugly buildings though.

Tourism is not what the middleast is about.

Actually, great huge chunks of it are very nice places to go on holidy. I speak from personal experience here.

The trick is to stay away from places the US has invaded or funded, basically. The rest of it's very pleasant.
