I don't remember the name of it, but the lense used for this is a concave lens with flat center, it's very short sighted in the middle so it gets a clear shot of the wasp, but the concave outer edge allows a full view of larger spaces behind it. I love these shots.

No, that's just a short prime (probably 28mm) with a shallow DoF. The focal plane is very close in, and all the area behind is consistent in fuzziness. You would see different levels of fuzziness with a sepcialized lens like the one you describe.
