It's funny, because the story of him being unaccepted in his hometown (gee, I wonder why?) is still in the Bible, and was one of the first big "huh?" moments I had growing up reading scripture. I never got a good answer on why they didn't like him, but then later on found out about alternate scripture, and it came together.
The interestingly and ironically dangerous thing is that if one were to re-syncretize this shit, and do it well, not only would it all hang together better and more believably, but it would really give fundies a license to cut loose.
Re-syncretizing that would open the door to the re-syncretization of, potentially, all the other apocryphal texts, such as the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and the regular Gospel of Thomas (I believe, but it's one of them), in which Jesus is asked how Hell can be eternal if God is a loving god, and Jesus answers that it isn't, that all souls shall be returned to Heaven eventually (presumably purified of their evil by Hellfire) ... what kind of license do you think that would give them?
That's what I'm saying. I didn't mean just the stories about him as Damie^H^H^H^H^H "Kid Jesus," but all the alternate Scripture.
Again, the irony is that it would be giving them pretty much exactly what they want, as opposed to the current Bible, where they ignore roughly 99% of what being "Christ-like" actually entails.
