An astronomical slice of life.
Jan. 22nd, 2014 10:53 amme: Huh. At 5:40pm on October 23, 2014, the sun will go out.
torrain Well that's bloody inconvenient. I was hoping the new Fallout would be out on the 22nd.
me: It's okay, they're bringing it back. It's a scheduled downtime. Like a maintenance period.
torrain Hmph.
me: They're even doing it in a rolling way - it goes out earlier in Toronto, later in Montreal, etc.
torrain I feel the sun should have a UPS, but okay.
me: Even a machine on UPS sometimes needs a reboot.
torrain Well, yes, but those are for complicated machines! What's the sun's programming trying to run, Burn Burn 1.0?
me: Look, do you want scheduled maintenance, or do you want something otherwise fixable causing downtime at an unspecified point? Can't fuck around with these things, they're known to go nova if left unattended.
torrain Fine, fine. But this is all an attempt to excuse sloppy set-up, I'm just saying. At least the planned obsolescence is likely to postdate my timeline.
