how does some asshat judge in the states believe that banashing some guy to canada is a solution to the problem.. i mean thats jsut like kids who sweep all the dirt under a rug and call it clean. seriously, id like to have a word wiht the judge because what has canada done to deserve this bull shit.. we have our own problems we dont need to be dealing wiht sex offenders from the states..

now i want to clarify that this is not an anti-american post.

i just think its fucking retarded that some backassed judge can even do this. that man deserves tobe in jail.. not among other people and having the ability to do this again.. just cause hes not gonan be able to molest an american citizen doesnt not make it alright.. i hope that canada does all it can to get him out of the country. and i hope they get rid of who ever offered that plea bargain..

and as for the childs parents.. how could they even think of being ok wiht that.. basically that man is getting off free.. there is no justice in this sentance.. hes jsut going free and hes going to harras some other child but yet as long as your own precious child is safe the welfare of other children doesnt matter... what the fuck is that.. those parents are jsut bad people in general and their child should be ashamed of them..

some times it jsut gets me how people think that the easy way out works. it never does.. that man should be in jail!

touche!

point tho is seriouslty we didnt banish them from canada.. for some reason they were invited into the states, ijust find the idea of banashment is so juvinile, and not the way that this should have been taken care of..

its like saying to a rapist.. we will let you go if you never come back here again.. its just passing of the buck cause eventually someone is going to have to deal with the situation.. and unfortunatly people are going to get hurt until the situation is done with..

Oh, I agree. i think this is the largest insult to Canada for quite some time (barring that one I just made above). I suspect this will not happen. If I were the canadian goveronment, i'd be a mite pissed if Alerica just started sending criminals to me.

What is third-degree sexual abuse? What did the guy do apart from "sitting in a car for two hours"?

Well, we obviously will never know all the details. From what is in the article, it sounds like it was something fairly non-threatening; as weird as the sentence is, it seems pretty gentle.

Also, the age of consent in Canada is 14, as long as it's not a student of the guy.

Nope, it was just upped to 16 by the Conservative government.

Ah, my data is out of date. Good thing I wasn't planning a teenaged sex trip to Canada.

I can't find any support for Ben's assertion that it was raised.

Hard to say with law changes -- in the US anyway, sometimes a bill gets news that it's passed by the house, but no news when it failes the senate, or somesuch. Or the news of a bill grossly misrepresents what it actually does. Or a proposal is reported like a vote. Or an actual vote is reported as active, but doesn't take effect until 2010, or until certain conditions are met...

I don't know about Canada, but here it seems there's a lot in the way of letting your avergae citizen know what the law actually is.

According to everything I see, Harper *wants* to raise it, but it's still defined by the Provinces.
