Scientists produce solid *alloy* of molecular hydrogen and oxygen.

And no, it's not "ice". Ice is H2O. This is H2 and O2 forming a crystal without bonding with each other.

Wasn't that the stuff Colin Farrell was insisting could TAKE OVER YOUR TOASTER THROUGH THE POWER CABLE?

(Yes, yes, Vonnegut blah blah blah)

Vonnegut blah blah blah

That's kind of how I feel about him, really.

I liked Slaughterhouse Five, myself. (Which is not to disagree with you about Cat's Cradle.)

I have no idea what you're talking about. I suspect this matches the lank space in your memory that would surround Highlander 2 if such a movie was ever produced.

(Fortunately, the stuff does not seem to be nearly as easy to replicate as ice-9.)

Is there a picture of it somewhere? I'd love to see what it looks like.

Crystallized H2+O2 in an un-bonded state sounds like it'd make a very big boom under the appropriate conditions. From the article it looks like they are examining it for structural purposes but I'd wager that it'd be only a matter of time before someone begins to look at the potential weapon value.

It sounds like a potentially very "James Bond" type explosive.

Aside from the inherent problems with maintaining the container at 17GPa. There are easier ways to make things go boom.
