For the record, people who buy the "upgrade" version of ANYTHING and then want me to reinstall it after a failure? You suck. All of you. Every last one. Pay the extra $20 for the full version or I will shoot you in the head.

I got hit by the 'upgrade' quandry. Except in my case the price difference was five hundred dollars, and the user only requested the application re-install /just before/ a two-week overseas business trip.
Unopened full version on my desk, awaiting the return of the user.

It's not QUITE so bad if, you know, you didn't throw out the originals when you got the new version because, hey, "I'll never need that again, right?"

But the definition of "pain" is discovering that you've got a WinXPPro UPGRADE - and a Win98SE UPGRADE - and a Dos 6.22 UPGRADE - and only part of a full version of Dos 4.

Going digging in boxes of floppies that haven't been touched since 1992 because you're trying to install a modern OS? Priceless.

The XP upgrade disc should merely aks you to put a previous version of windows in the optical drive during installation, otherwise it installs just like a full version. Your 98 disc should be sufficient.

I was exaggerating about the need to go digging.

I just found the concept of owning nothing but "upgrades" terrifying.
