I certainly would not mind if cancer became a thing of the past. But history shows that most therapies are a lot less awesome than expected in humans.
During the several years my mother took dying from melanoma, I read several excited articles in popular science magazines about new awesome treatments of this particular disease. Now, years after her passing, none of them have gone mainstream. I'm not laying off the sunblock quite yet.
Still, a fascinating piece of knowledge about our little symbiotic friends, the mitochondria.
