My completely armchair guess is that it was stressed by coming up from the depths. Changes in temperature, pressure, and water composition can do a number on deep sea fish (and any fish, for that matter). Being caught and oogled by biologists probably added to the stress that was already there. From what I've heard, specimens captured during deep sea diving expeditions tend to not survive long in captivity, even in the best of tanks that mimic deep sea conditions.
Oh that is just sexy. Even without tentacles. Much prettier than a coellacanth (you can't honestly expect me to know how to spell it?). An ex of mine convinced me not to eat sharkmeat because they are too cute. More reason to stick by it. (I still eat cephalopods though...I'm a bad girl.) Kinda looks like an axolotl crossed eel.
I had seen this earlier and wondered how cool it was. Was the shark like "I'm a going up there to the LIGHT. and when I return...You will know that I've trancended and stuff."
Also since it was filmed in Japan I wonder if after filming if the shark was immediately killed and eaten.
