A "terror-free" petrol station has opened in the US city of Omaha.

The Terror-Free Oil Initiative (TFO), which runs the outlet, says none of its fuel comes from countries which it believes are supporting terrorism.

It currently uses only petrol from the US and Canada, rejecting supplies from the Middle East and elsewhere.

The outlet is decorated to drive home its message. Along with the large Terror-Free signs, the pumps display a diagram of how the owners believe unscreened fuel funds the enemies of the US.

You can't tell where gasoline originally comes from, as it's all mixed at the boat terminals, then mixed further at the refineries.

That's like saying a specific city doesn't run on any power that comes from a nuclear plant. You can't tell, as all power networks are interconnected (except parts of Texas for some reason).

I wonder if the fact that Nebraska is a heavy corn-producing state (read: begging for money to make ethanol) has anything to do with it.

Disclosure: poster grew up in small town near Omaha.

I don't know what to make of that, actually.

I actually heard about this about 2 weeks ago. Only one out of the 4 or 5 people the news reporter interviewed said they would go out of their way to use this particular gas station. Everyone else said price and convenience determine which gas station they use.

Good idea. Bush talks about how the US should have less dependancy on oil from the Middle East. I agree (although my reasons may be different from his). Now market forces can determine whether the US public agrees as well. "Terror-Free Oil" is a fairly hilarious brand for it mind you.

I don't see this as much different from Macewan's offering an ethanol blend. Some people will support that initiative, some won't.

While not supporting possibly dangerous persons is important during war time, my feelings are mixed on this, b/c things like this fall into my 'aggravating war-mongers box'.

I like how the prices are listed with "Terror Free Super", "Terror Free Unleaded", and "Terror Free Premium". You know, just in case you missed that it was terror free.

It looks less like "Terror-Free Oil" and more like "Terror - Free Oil". Which, when you think about it...

Someone should definitely paint another identical white line above the hyphen, like so: "Terror = Free Oil", just for shits and giggles.
