There's a note on the article that says "WHO'S BLOGGING - What people are saying about this article" with a link back here.

I'm 25. I brush my teeth and mouthwash regularly. And I sure as hell wish I could afford to go get my molars checked for cavities right now.

Same here. I've got a lifelong problem with my teeth no matter how much I brush and floss and rinse, and I haven't been able to afford dental care in ages.

Have you guys tried universities and CEGEPS?

In CEGEPS (or whatever institution trains dental hygenists) you can get your teeth cleaned (and I mean CLEANED like crazy for 3h) for free by the dental hygenists in training ... bit painful but crazily torough ... and they always need more people.

At university faculties that form dentist, you can get dental work done at an extremely low price and it is also very torough because a) students are paranoid they are going to make a mistake and b) teachers watch them and go over their work like hawks.

When I was poor, this is how I got dental work done on the super-cheap

In the states I believe it would be colleges and/or community colleges. CEGEPS are a uniquely Quebequois phenomenon.

Actually, when I was down in SoCal, my Brazilian roommate used to go to USC for his dental work all the time. I had no car, however, and also no time to go to the college constantly, which they required since you were a constant guinea pig for their class. But yes, it's a good option if you can find it.

and if you happen to live within your transportation-option's range of it. There's way more poor communities in North America than there are teaching hospitals and dental schools.

Why yes, yes I am. Stealing, in fact, from WAY back when the Florida woman got shot in the head and told it's *her* problem because she doesn't live there.

I think we're very much on the same wavelength here.

A couple of days ago [livejournal.com profile] skipernicus posted the headline, and got hit by three trollicious anonymice blaming the parent for not taking care of the child's teeth. I replied and linked to "Being Poor," too. It's just apt.
