It's worth noting that Stein is very much a conservative. He's written other editorials, including one I remember reading back at the time of Nixon's death, slamming people for ruining his presidency over a cheap scandal. It's worth pointing out, though, that by this article, he is a real conservative.
Ben Stein is indeed a traditional conservative and a very smart guy who's done lots of cool stuff.
I wish modern Republicans were still like Stein. As it is, despite having conservative leanings (I tend to be slightly to the left on social issues, and right leaning where money is involved...), I will not vote for a Republican at this point.
Believe me, I know, and I've disagreed with him vehemently in the past. At the same time, he's not stupid and he *does* usually change his opinion when the facts indicate he should.
(My main objection to Ben Stein's politics is that, in the face of repeated failures of a policy, he tends to blame the people applying the policy for not applying it *enough* without examining what the actual results of applying the policy *were*.)
