"It was this hypocrisy that caused me to open my eyes. Those on the Christian right, for whatever reasons, have become fixated on homosexuality. They are obsessed by it and perverse form of vengeance appears to be fueling their inquisition. I may be wrong, but I think actions are speaking much louder than words here.

The whole gay issue is no longer about the quest for the Truth; it is about fear and loathing. It is about shame and sorrow. It is anything but Christian. "
- Joe Murray, (former, now) lawyer and writer for the American Family Association.

If the Christian right were campaigning against greed and hypocricy, like Jesus is quoted as doing, how many Americans would vote for them? I wonder if they'd even vote for themselves. The things Jesus regularly warned against - materialism, self-confidence and self-righteousness - are now the American Way, the foundation of the society. They can't even quote Jesus on marriage, because he spoke squarely against serial monogamy, which is now the rule in America. But at least we can be reasonably sure that there will never be a large part of the electorate who enjoy homosexuality. It seems a safe bet that neither did Jesus, so this may be the last remaining common ground...
