The problem si that while Jet Li is awsome, he's not a good enough actor to have a valid career without the martial arts. Give him five to ten years and maybe.

It's also probably worth noting that Jackie Chan is, well, getting old. I sense less real action scenes and more cheesy CG will be in the works, sadly. But hey, I'll hold my breath.

What makes this even *more* bad-ass is the story that they'll be doing. According to the article, Jet Li will be playing the Monkey King. If what they mean is the Monkey King of traditional Chinese legend -- Sun Wu-k'ung -- then what we're talking about is a character as famous in traditional Chinese literature -- and as bad-ass -- as...

Actually, I'd be interested in what other folks familiar with Sun Wu-k'ung and Journey to the West would come up with as an analogy. What comes to mind to me is Ulysses in the Odyssey, except imagine that, in addition to his famous brain, imagine if Ulysses could fight like Achilles. And if, so capable, Ulysses had taken on the gods of Olympus...

Yeah. *Seriously* awesome, if done right.
