Think your writing sucks? Here's excerpts from Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine's slushpile.

"Sublimely, this time, and just by feel, light was even dimmer inside the war machine than merely beneath the overhang that had been gutted out for it keeping its resplendency restrained."

From the linked page:

Weston was known for the firm but genital hold he had on his men.

That word... I do not think it means what you think it means.

When Gardner Dozois (former editor of Asimov's) taught at my Clarion West session, he treated us to a dramatic reading of what he proclaimed the worst sex scene ever written, found in the Asimov's slushpile.

I can't say for certain whether it is, in fact, the worst sex scene ever written.

However, if there's a worse one out there, I reeeeeeeally don't want to go looking for it.

I'm curious too.

Although I feel like I've just said, "Sure, read the Necronomicon in Dunwich on Walpurgis Night while throwing pebbles at Shub-Niggurath? Why not?"

(A preliminary Google turns up nothing, sadly.)

It looks like Thog has his work cut out for him.

Isn't it a a tiny bit speciest to object to Freddy was in the habit of
staring at Beverly's legs as they peaked from her Susie Wong slit dresses. She had a dozen of them.
though? Obviously we're talking of a twelve-legged non-human whose legs have knees that poke upwards like a spiders.

If I ever join the military, I also wish to attain the rank of Corporeal. Any lesser rank would seem . . . insubstantial.
