Remember the irrational freakout over Canadian "spy coins" that were being "planted" on US travellers?

It was the Remembrance Day memorial coins. The ones with the "confusing" red poppy in the middle. Because, of course, that's obviously a sign that it's secretly a *nanotech* electronic listening device.

Well you know Americans are used to thinking that any kind of money with colours other than "drab green" on it is fake. I guess the bright red overwhelmed their senses or something.

Because of course any item with a BIG COLORFUL PIECE that immediately draws the eye is going to be a super-secret, subtle spy device. *headdesk*

Classic misdirection. Look closely, and you'll see that the Queen's eye follows you.

Remember, we're talking about the same class of personages who viewed lite-brite Mooninites as ticking time-bombs.

We're prepared down here for the Mountie invasion, yes sir.

"filled with something man-made that looked like nanotechnology"
Reminds me of that quote regarding the Boston scare about how the boards had "these wires sticking out from them".

Hmm. Smells like neurotoxin.

I'm just going to imagine slamming my head on the keyboard a few dozen times now.

Where can I get my hands on one of these coins? I want to see what nanotechnology looks like. You know, to the naked human eye.

Enamel poppies are clearly spy technology.

"My coat pockets were empty this morning. I stopped at Tim Horton's for coffee, and the next time I checked, these SPY COINS were in my pocket!"
