Hey, meme-sheep.

Remember "lj-mojo", the one with all the results that didn't make sense after asking you all kinds of dating information?

Look at your results now.

#1: They're all goatse. The random image? It's been replaced by the guy you hotlinked it from, who created the meme.
#2: The creator of the meme says, outright, that the results were totally random, and the only purpose of the process was to spread goatse, and to get personal information.
#3: All the personal information you submitted? It's public.

You might not have. After all, not only to people on the internet lie, but this made no attempt to check what your username was.

Personally, I'm looking it as a slightly modified way to FOAF. [livejournal.com profile] accelerant's sewing project seems somewhat neat.

You might not.

O NOES PEOPLE CAN SEE WHO I HAVE PUBLICALLY ADMITTED DATING IN THE PAST 15 YEARS! I must hie myself to a convent! :P

Seriously, I don't fill out anything in a meme that I would give a damn if the whole internet saw. So this just amuses the shit outta me.

Cool.

(If you posted the results, though, you probably want to change them.)

Don't believe I did... I tend to take a lot of memes out of boredom but then I end up not posting the results because they're just not that interesting. ;)

Man, it's like Jason Fortuny, only with no significant information and no one cares.

The people who are the target of this will definitely care. LJ-Drama for the win!

I think it's pretty funny, myself.

I guess.

It may be funny--though I do sympathize with the people who were goatse'd without reason. (I say "without reason" because the expectation in these memes is for the images to be hotlinked. So it's not quite the same as when, say, [livejournal.com profile] missysedai, after repeated "do not hotlink" warnings, goatses a moron.)

The goatseing is low-class and crude. The humour is in the people who submitted all this information about their (fictional, in many cases) history now discovering that it's all public.

Agreed. So with the caveat, yes, it's funny.

Now, now. We at DFN would never defile our server with goatse.

Rather, we use creative, mild flames to kick the appropriate asses into line. It's more effective!

(Though, seriously, people, don't hotlink. This shit happens a lot more often than you might think.)

I could have sworn...though the only one I remember involved an Oasis logo replaced by something which looked similar but proclaimed the hotlinker a stupid bitch, so my memory may be misfiring.

Yes. That's the kind of stuff we do.

Goatse is the simpleton's way of doing things.

I suddenly realize that my friends may have a slightly skewed definition of what "dated" means. Cute how even though I never filled this out, other people entering my name gives out possibly inaccurate information! Remember people, the internets are watching!

Hell, two of the people who claim to have dated me are people from my FL who post interesting stuff, but I have no idea who they actually are.

To be fair, it's possible to type in *anything* for the "Your LJ username". I just checked by entering a particular name and giggling madly over some of the possible pairings that turned up.

(No, I didn't click on or submit anything. I iz gut.)

Oh noes! people who know my username know I dated my boyfriend!

Maybe it's just me, but I never doubted for a second that memes you fill out on sites other than your own personal blog could be made public at any given time by the person who designed the meme or anyone who can get access to the site. What protects me is the fact that this information is absolutely fucking harmless (at least to me). I say more incriminating things on public entries in my lj. How can this information hurt me? It can't. So why do I care if it's public? Well, I suppose if I'm a politician and I said I dated my opponent's wife... but again, why would I say that in a MEME?

The goatse is more likely to be a larger problem than the "you claimed you dated me? what the fuck?"" for most of my friends. That's not the point, though.

Several of my friends posted it in a "can someone explain this to me" style, and I think I put my results up in a comment rather than on my own journal. Pretty sure I didn't post it, because it was crap at the time. Ah well, nothing on there that isn't known anyway.

Awesome. In retrospect, I'm glad that I didn't answer honestly to any of those questions (based on the bottom of my sheet, neither did anyone else). It would be moderately embarrassing if my list contained one or two people that I didn't actually date, but since it contains something in the realm of every female friend I have, I think i feel ok about it.
