woman blames the devil and not her husband for severely burning their infant daughter after the 2-month-old was put in a microwave, a Houston television station reported.

Eva Marie Mauldin said Satan compelled her 19-year-old husband, Joshua Royce Mauldin, to microwave their daughter May 10 because the devil disapproved of Joshua's efforts to become a preacher.

"Satan saw my husband as a threat. Satan attacked him because he saw (Joshua) as a threat," Eva Mauldin told Houston television station KHOU-TV.

A Galveston County grand jury indicted Joshua Mauldin last week on child injury charges after hearing evidence that he placed his daughter in a motel microwave for 10 to 20 seconds.

Begs the question why a preacher would listen to Satan, or conversely, why someone who can be ordered around by Satan would want to be a preacher. What if Satan took control of him while preaching and spread all kinds of erroneous teachig and blasphemy?

Anyway it sounds more like Moloch than Satan. A preacher would no doubt have read in the Old Testament about how the ancient Israelites made their children pass through fire for Moloch. (It is unclear whether this was a human sacrifice or a purifying ritual that sometimes happened to be fatal.)

isn't it basically just down to this:

good things happen: god's will
bad things happen: work of satan

free will is for suckers. If they accept free will, they'd have to take responsibility for their actions.

I've seen this before. Family put the eyes out of girl because they said she was a witch and Satan made them do it.

Since when does Satan make people put out the eyes of witches? I say they're lying.

Hmm. Apparently, if your Myspace page is critical of Rupert Murdoch, it gets taken down. But a page critical of Satan can stay.

I guess this is, if not proof, then certainly a hint that Rubert Murdoch is not Satan after all.

Wow, an actual, straight-out, no-irony "the Devil made me do it" defense. And here I thought that'd gone out of style....

-- Steve, of course, really doesn't see the utility of that defense; though he could see the defense of "hubby was nuts".

Lock them up, throw away the key ... and blame the lack of due process on Satan. Though I suspect that "baby microwavers" life expectancy in prison might be a tad short.
