That article is from 2004. If I recall, the RIAA ended up with egg on its face when the police cracked down on their little thug squad for - you guessed it - "impersonating an officer".

Not sure what the status of their mercenary unit is now, but yeah, it was a dumb idea with predictably dumb results.
