Security testers put water bottle, bomb in carryon luggage at Albany airport.

Water bottle confiscated by security. Bomb waved through.

My personal story is the invisible knife. I had an excess of pocket knives, so one ended up in my purse for emergencies. I promptly forgot about it until it was caught by the through security guards when I tried to take a chunnel train to France. I realized that it had been there for 3 flights across the Pacific, one across the Atlantic and at least 5 within the US.

at least at JFK they had the good sense to say, "Listen, that's too much toothpaste, but just barely. I don't know nothin'. Pick up the toothpaste and walk on by." Danger is an atyipcal event. Human nature becomes accustomed to typical events.

At least they aren't obsessed with drugs anymore.
